Words of Wisdom
How to change your life by valuing every little thing
Recall that time when you wished for things that you have now. How you were excited when you bought the very gadget that's in your hands right now.
Those were some really happy days. We used to get happy at little things. Little petty cute stuff.
Must be somewhat of a vague, happy recollection.
But in actuality do we humans value the things we possess until they're gone. Rarely.
Here are some anecdotes of my life which are the prominent reason I felt the need to share with you, this meaningful lesson.
1. The time all gone
I happen to develop a
great love for books and literature almost 28 months ago. My academic session
for class 10 has just begun then. The book I read first was The Invisible Man
and it introduced me to a new world of books and words and magic. We all have
some reader friends and you must have heard this phrase from them “too many
books, too little time”. When I entered the XI standard, I couldn't really read
much. I became busy as a bee. I wasn't getting even an hour. My life was like on a bight.
SCHOOL - COACHING - HOMEWORK - REPEAT
I used to miss my
reading nook, my books, and obviously their smell. I used to often regret and I
still do regret the old lovely days before I entered junior college when I had
all the free time in the world and instead of making most out of it I just
wasted it in doing random stuff. I feel I could have read 100's of books in
those 3 years. Could have done a lot of
more productive things. I could have conquered the world. (Just kidding)
2. The last goodbye unsaid.
"Dead people receive more flowers than the
living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude.” - Anne Frank
The above line quoted
by Anne frank sheds light on the actuality of human beings' behaviour towards
each other. And believe me, guilt and regret are one of the worst feelings one
can feel. I still regret talking acrimoniously to someone and it turned out to
be the last time we ever talked due to their sudden death.
The worst part is that
I couldn't do anything but bewail.
Death is uncertain and so unpredictable. That's what makes life more valuable.
Things that really hold value in your lives
1. Your health
2. Your family
3. Your mental health
4. Your education
5. Shelter
6. Real friends
7. Purpose in life
8. Love
9. Life experiences
10. Ability to earn money
Where’s the problem?
A beggar on a road after seeing a girl riding a bicycle thinks “Oh I wish I had that”.That girl thinks the same on seeing a guy with a normal car .The guy driving that very car thinks the same on seeing a man driving a luxury car and the man driving the luxury car thinks the very same thing seeing a private jet.
So then dreaming big is a wrong?
No.
Not celebrating what you already have and not
enjoying what you already possess is.
Blinded by the fancy, glorious objects in the distance,
we run after them; those materialistic things that won’t even matter to us
after a month or two.
In all this we forget to appreciate and take notice of the small and big treasures of our life which really hold value. These treasures might not have a price tag but hold very high value.
Why adapt this habit? How will this adorn your life?
1. The value of life increases when you learn to
value things in your life.
2. You find happiness even in small things.
3. Instead of getting jealous from others, you
focus on your upliftment.
4. You don’t regret not appreciating what you had
after it’s gone. You start showing gratitude
5. You live in the moment and make the most out of
it.
How to learn to value little things in your life?
We live in a paradise but the thing is we just don’t realize.
We realize their true value the moment:
1. When we actually loose what we once had
2. When we look into the bleary eyed people
who can’t afford them
3. When we know how much efforts and hard
work it takes to buy that thing
Following a basic principle
Being open to the possibility that we
might lose them and what would happen to you if that really happened. How would
you react? Would you regret? Would start valuing them more?
This also gives you strength in case if
you really loose one of them.
Valuing what you have also helps to overcome
the feeling of loss.
But how to learn this art of appreciating and value even the small things in life. The following 7 will assist you in valuing what you have, even the little things and understanding the true treasures of your life.
1. Understanding what holds REAL value in your life
What really matters is your happiness and health. People whom you love and who love you back. In this digital world real friends and family matter more than your followers on the social media. Yours emotions hold value. Materialistic things don’t .Appreciate them. Value them.
2. Recalling how much you or your parents worked for that thing
Before criticising or hating the fact that you could only afford this much. Think of how your parents have worked to earn that. Think of people who couldn’t even afford them. The value of a thing is determined by the hard work and struggle done to really earn that thing.
3. Discovering the beauty even in the small things.
Beauty isn’t in the objects it’s in the eyes
and vision of who decides to find it in everything. Find beauty in everything
be it a small flower or a whole bouquet.
Celebrate good weather by taking your pet
out for walk.
4. See through the lessons and values hidden in struggle
God gives the hardest lessons to its bravest humans. Value isn’t always in the lifeless objects but in emotions and life lessons that help you all over your lifetime. Try finding those values and lessons in your struggle and hardships.
5. Look at your life with different perspective
When you focus too much on the trivial problems
that come in your life, you might lose sight of true foundations and fortunes
in your life. Try looking life with a positive mindset. This also keeps you physically
healthy as positive emotions strengthen you and immune you from all the
negative feelings.
6. Start showing gratitude towards others
7. Seize the moment
Whatever you do , whenever you do live the moment to its fullest. Past is a part of you. Learn from it, make peace with it. It won’t disturb your present. Try not making snaps or Instagram stories when you’re experiencing something beautiful something awesome. Keep your homes in your pockets and live that moment.
